Professional shogi

Japanese chess shogi is one of the most popular logical board games in Japan. Many people play shogi regularly and there is shogi professional organisation in Japan.

The main professional shogi tournaments are: Meijin, Ryuo, Osho, Kio, Oi, Kisei, Oza. This tournaments also named as title ones. There are a lot of other professional competitions and women pro tournament.

This time shogi is not so popular abroad Japan. But it is obviously that number of adherents of this interesting game increase constantly. Only chinese chess xiangqi and european chess have more amateurs than shogi around the world.

Organization structure of shogi in Japan is also quite interesting. Solid sponsors, TV- and radio translations, massmedia's attention to shogi events are the good means to popularisation shogi in Japan.

If you don't know what is japanese chess we recommend to acquaint with shogi rules.
