Kio tournament was established in 1974 and had status of title one in 1975. Professional players, women Meijin and amateur Meijin take part in this shogi event. The best players of preliminary stage and seed players in total amount 32 persons have a play off games. Time limit is 4 hours for every player.

It is necessary to win 3 title games to get Kio title. Every title game plays during one day. Time limit is 5 hours for every players.
